Virtual Vision Boards for Your Therapy Era.

Yep. That is right. It is time to lean into the daydream that life can look how you want it to look.

I have been ~ o b s e s s e d ~ with this “era” trend I am seeing online. In case you have not seen it, this is essentially like naming the phase of life you are in.

Obsessed with your fuzzy bucket hat - Fuzzy Bucket Hat Era.

Feeling messy and depressy - Sad Girl Era.

Making moves to absolutely SLAY - Bad Bitch Era.

You get the point. We are naming the season. What I LOVE about this is the humor, the realness, and the opportunity to make each new (and sometimes) mundane season of life feel unique. Right now, I am in my Mindful Era - focused on collecting and appreciating beautiful things: both tangible and in thought/emotion. I also feel like I am a little bit in a Funk Era too. But that is literally so human and so fine.

SO I decided to create a virtual vision board for the energy I want to introduce into my life right now. As a therapist with teenagers and young adults, I find that this is a really great way to introduce creativity, social media, and exploration of treatment goals OUTSIDE of the therapy office. Curious to see what the heck I am talking about? Here is a step-by-step guide ;-)

Step 1 :

Create a Pinterest Account (or log in to you Pinterest)

Pinterest is a great resource for inspiration! The account is free and here is a link to the site!

Step 2:

Navigate to your profile. Here is what mine looks like!

Once on your profile, click the “+” button to create a new board.

Let’s name the board! Think of a word/phrase that describes the energy you want to see more. Some examples are:

  • Icon Era

  • Feminine Era

  • Wellness Era

  • Therapy Era

  • Fashion Era

Literally Whatever you want. Add some razzle dazzle with emojis too!

Step 3:

Brainstorm Time.

In therapy, we sometimes use the “magic wand” question which essentially asks “If you had a magic wand what would you like your life to look like?

  • Think of themes of this era:

  • Activities you want to do

  • Clothes you want to wear

  • Nail art you love

  • Quotes that inspire you

  • Art that you connect to

  • Lifestyle images that are sooo you

  • Foods you want to enjoy

  • Places you want to travel

Enjoy this process and REMEMBER, they do not have to be 100% realistic. Dream a little, gf. Allow yourself to explore and daydream some. No judgment for what comes to mind!

Step 4:

Now let’s take the brainstorming notes and turn them into a search. I recommend this hot little tip when building a vision board.

Type in the search bar “____ aesthetic”. This will give you really pretty and curated images that look nice! I even search for colors that inspire me (green aesthetic, pink aesthetic, brown aesthetic, etc. Below is an example of what pops up when I typed “self care aesthetic.

Start browsing the images and when you see one that speaks to you…

Step 5:

Pin it! You will click on the image, and either select the pin icon or the save button. Make sure it is saving to the board you created!

Now just spend some time pinning things that INSPIRE you. You are looking for images you either see yourself in or would love to experience for yourself. I have made one of these boards and I truly enjoyed the process so much. I want to share mine with you here in case you want some inspiration or just a place to start! (Click the image of my board below to browse!)

Pro tip: grab a nice tea, sit somewhere cozy, turn on your fav playlist and enjoy the time to yourself.

Step 6:

Once you have some pins that make you feel real good and excited, go to your board and look through them. Note how it feels to look at this vision board. Are you excited? Nervous? Proud?

As you go through your board, you can put the pins in categories (if you want it to be organized) or you can leave them freely on the board.

Ask yourself:

  • How do my current habits/relationships/routines align with the energy of this board?

  • What additions can I make into my life today/this week/this month/this year to experience this in my own way?

Step 7:

Bring your board to therapy! Share your screen or pull out your phone in session. Show your board to your therapist and explore how your board aligns (or can align) with your current therapy goals.

There is SO much beauty in stating clearly what we want out of life. There is power in harnessing our creativity and dreams to achieve our goals. I am so excited for you.

Happy Pinning, Angel!
